Incidental Music

My group finished its first day of filming on Sunday. We filmed the first 2 scenes of the movie and are planning on meeting up again sometime soon to get the final shots. After the filming session Rashawn messaged me and asked if I wanted to work on more music with him for the film. The soundtrack was already created for the film, but Rashawn had another idea. He suggested that I help him work on the incidental music.

The incidental music would help to tie the scenes together and possibly create a better ambience. Using the incidental music would help to amplify the ambient sounds of cars passing by on the side of the road. I agreed to call Rashawn and talk about what we can create.

Rashawn and I discussed each shot and the possible options that we had available. We could either make incidental music that made the scene either more exciting or tense.

If the music is exciting then it would make the film feel more positive. It would help to make the film feel almost as if it's comedy. This could work if we made the film seem like a comedy film, and then transition it into a thriller at the end of the opening sequence.

If the incidental music was more tense it would fit better with the thriller genre. It would make the scenes more thrilling and have the audience wanting more.

I decided that a better choice would be the tense music. Rashawn agreed with me and we began working on the music. We watched the shots we had and decided the beat based on what happens during the scene. For example during the shot where the camera is zoomed in on the faucet we are creating a very low bass sound. This is often used in the thriller genre to make the scenes feel like something is going to suddenly happen. It builds up to create tension.

We created music for a few shots, but Rashawn had to end the call early. The few scenes that we created incidental music for feel a lot more cleaner and makes the film feel more polished.
