Music Video CCR

1. How does your product use or challenge conventions And how does it represent social groups or issues?

The main convention that was displayed in the music video is the "jock". In the music video the story is about how the girlfriend is feeling depressed, because her boyfriend is ignoring her and not wanting to spend time with her. In the story the boyfriend is the jock convention. The boyfriend is considered the cool, popular character that is usually rude and mean to other characters. The boyfriend fits this description, because in the flashbacks he is kind to the girlfriend, but later changes and begins to ignore her.

The convention of the "jock" character also ties into the social issue of bullying. The jock is usually seen as a bully character in movies and tv shows. In the music video the boyfriend is shown actively leaving out the girlfriend and ignoring her and her messages.

2. How does your product engage with audiences and how would it be distributed as a real media text?

The main ways the music video engages with the audience is the song selection and the storyline. The song chosen was Stereo Heart by Gym Class Heroes. This song was a well known and popular song in the early 2010s, and our the audience has heard the song and will recognize it's catchy tune and lyrics. The audience also relates to the story being depicted in the music video. The story is about how a girlfriend is being ignored by her boyfriend. The story is sad and depressing as it shows the girlfriend being left out and ignored by the boy she loves. This story can relate to a lot of young adults and teenagers.

The main way the music video will be distributed by media text is through social media. The target audience is young adults and teenagers. These age groups are often active on social media, and will be able to see it much easier. The music video would be published on YouTube and promoted through other social media apps like Instagram.

3. How did your production skills develop throughout this project?

I have improved my production skills a lot during the music video project compared to the commercial project. During the commercial project I was working by myself and I filmed and edited on my own. During the Music Video project I worked in a team with a few other classmates. This changed the project entirely, because I had to learn how to work together with my teammates.

The biggest things I improved on during this project was my teamwork skills and my filming skills. Working with a team for the first time during this project made me adapt and change the way I create videos. I had to communicate with my team a lot and come up with plans that work with everyone's schedule and not just my own. Being part of a team also meant that for some shots I wasn't being filmed. This project has helped me to work on my filming skills and practice the different camera angles and motions.

4. How did you integrate technologies - software, hardware and online - in this project?

The most important part of the project was the technology that I used. Without technology I wouldn't of been able to even create this project. The main devices that I used was my phone and laptop. I used my phone to record each take and shot. Each take and shot would be then be transferred from my phone to my laptop. On my laptop I can use Adobe Premiere Pro to edit the music video. Premiere Pro is the main application that I used to create the video. I personally think that Premiere Pro's layout and tools better suits my editing style.
